Design Your Scroll

The mounting specialist will match the styles of the following scrolls in their original formats (or similar formats per your requests) with our own available silk brocades and knobs. The silk color(s) will be matched with your choice of Shuan Paper. We only carry standardized wood knobs as used in Beijing, China.

Basic One-Color Format Scroll (Reference Number: Scroll-1-000) starting from US$200

• no "liners" for picture core (i.e., calligraphy content)

• no "edge wrapping" (purfle) at the scroll's borders

• no "decorative strips"

• your selection of silk in its original color

The price of Scroll-1-000 with inner liners and edge wrapping is not necessarily lower than some of the Two-Color Format Scrolls. This is due to the labor to mount a larger piece of silk.

Additional features:

• add $40 for both inner liners and edge wrapping

A pair of couplets mounted as one scroll like Scroll-1-157 or any other formats here is counted as "one" scroll.
Scroll-1-157 comes with red edge wrappings, yellow (or brown) picture core liners, and a black liner in the middle. 

All of the liners and wrappings are not markings by pen. 

A couplet is a pair of Chinese lucky, encouraging, or blessing words written on two pieces of red paper and placed by the gate, door, or inside a room.

Scrolls-2-227 come with edge wrappings, picture core liners, and six decorative strips. The liners and wrappings are not markings by pen.

Couplets mounted on two separate scrolls as a pair do not come with knobs in most cases per Chinese tradition. They do have the upper and lower rods as ordinary scrolls.

If you decide to design your own scroll style, you do not need to use the "Order / Quote Form." Just contact Mr. Stephen Kim at art.virtue@live.com directly. A non-refundable consulting fee of $15 is required before Stephen responds to your request of a specific design. This is due to the efforts needed to repeatedly create and edit graphic files by both the customer and Stephen. The fee will be credited to your purchase of a scroll. "Mountable" silk is thin and light. It cannot be too heavy, too thin or too transparent. For mounting Chinese art, the floral patterns of the silk are usually small.

We also offer "convertible scrolls" for your convenience. These scrolls come with "movable" upper and lower rods that can be removed so the artwork can fit in a frame. When you take the artwork out from the frame, the rods can be re-inserted to the top and lower portions of the scroll. 

Each convertible scroll will cost additional $35. If you are looking for a convertible scroll, please type in the "optional box" in Step 4 of the order / quote form for a custom scroll.
